Hi everyone! I intended to post a few notes right after our first game night. Well, you can see how well I did with that. But two weeks late is better than never, right?
About 40 people or so came to the first GAMES! event - a great turn-out for our first one! Thanks to everyone who came! I enjoyed playing with friends and also meeting several new people. Overall, I think it went very well. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. (Clay-O-Rama was certainly a big hit.) Wes Dau was the winner of the door prize drawing, and he chose The Ark of the Covenant as his prize.
The first time running a new event is always somewhat of an experiment. We tried to have some live music, but it ended up being too loud. As a result, next time we will just have an acoustic guitar - and if it's still too loud, we probably won't have any music the next time. Another area we're making some changes to is the kitchen. Since I'm not in charge of the kitchen, I'm not exactly sure what the changes are, but I think they're planning to keep the offerings a bit simpler. We should have the October menu posted soon. We have added one new game to the Prize Vault - Tongiaki. We are hosting GAMES! for you, so if you have any suggestions for anything, please let us know. We want you to enjoy your time, so we'll certainly take your feedback into consideration.
Our next event is Saturday, October 13, which is less than two weeks away. If you came last time, we hope you'll come again. If you didn't, we hope to see you this time. We know you'll have a good time!
Just a few things to consider about our next game night, which is Saturday, October 13th, 3-9 p.m -- just around the bend....
CALLING ALL COW-POKES AND COWGIRLS! This is your chance to show off your western duds and sample some authentic cowboy chili -- all at our October GAMES! "Old West" theme night.
But wait, before you get your spurs in a spin, let me explain just exactly what a "theme night" means. First, it is always an OPTIONAL thing; you do NOT need to participate to attend. Second, for those who do participate in some way, they may win a prize, in this case, a gift certificate from the kitchen (for some of that knee-slappin', hat-tippin' good chili). And third, we'll have specific areas considered for prizes. For The Old West Night we will be looking for the best dressed cowboy, best dressed cowgirl, and possibly a few competitive cowboy-game winners. So, consider coming dressed in your best western duds -- you might even get a chance to wrangle a few broncos and rid our town of some pesky varmits. Add an accent and you're sure to impress the judges!
From the kitchen window: We're slimming down our menu for this next event to make sure we have plenty of what you want to see. If you have suggestions, please let us know (we WILL have that Diet Pepsi requested last time). This month's delectables will all pretty much be campfire fare, so bring your pesos and hearty appetite! Check out the column to the right, In the Kitchen, for a soon-to-be-announced finalized menu.
And finally, we've come to realize everyone doesn't necessarily like either board games or large group games! So to make these events as game-extensive as possible, we're hoping to add a jigsaw puzzle area and a dedicated area for those serious chess and checker players. This will also allow those who come in late to occupy their time while waiting for a game to open up. If you have other suggestions, please let us know. As space/ability permits, we want these events to be for YOU, our guests.
Looking forward to a great time on the 13th!
There is less than a week left before the first GAMES! @ BRBC event. We're excited, and we hope you are too!
As was mentioned in the last post, we will be giving away some games as prizes. We have settled on having a drawing for one door prize winner each month. The lucky winner will get to pick an item from our Prize Vault. There is now a section on the right that lists the current contents of the Prize Vault, so check it out. I think we've got some good games in there. And feel free to post comments here with any suggestions for future prizes.
If you're planning to come and would like to invite some friends, please do! To make it easy for you, there is a link to download an informational poster or flier on the right in the Information section.
If you have any questions about GAMES!, you can post them here. I look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces this Friday. See you there!
